A Pause for Words
By Lylanne Musselman
Embracing the “Berrrrrs”
Canada geese fly over my house
honking as if they’re raging in rush
hour traffic, or signaling the first
hard freeze as they head south toward
the Mississinewa River and beyond.
My content cats lift their heads
at the cacophony, but are not discomforted
enough to move out of their slice of warm sun
shining through the picture window as we
settle into the coziness of our home, ignoring
what Mother Nature has planned for us
during the rest of her “berrrrrr” months.
Lylanne Musselman is an award-winning poet, visual artist, and playwright, who lives with her cats and creates in Eaton, IN. She is a member of Hancock County Arts. Musselman instructs writing classes of all stripes at IvyOnline Ivy Tech Community College and at the University of Indianapolis.
