A "Pause for Words"
Where Does the Time Go?
You saw that unusual bird and
had to photograph it, research it.
You wrote and tinkered with a
new poem that couldn’t wait to be born.
You had to eat.
You fill the empty feeders for the songbirds.
A friend calls so you are happy
to chat. Another one texts and you reply.
Hours pass with your cats piled on your lap
and getting up would disturb them.
Too many mandatory work meetings.
Hours go into that new painting that needs
finished in time for an art show deadline.
You’re sucked into scrolling social media.
Sleep summons...
Time’s up.
