About the Event

Poetry lovers and community are invited to celebrate National Poetry Month with a special afternoon honoring the winners of the James Whitcomb Riley 250 America’s Birthday Poetry Contest. The celebration will take place at 1:00 pm, in Lizabeth Ann's Kitchen in the historic Boyhood Home of James Whitcomb Riley, located at 250 W. Main Street, Greenfield, Indiana.

Contest-winning poets will read their original works, followed by a formal awards presentation in tribute to James Whitcomb Riley’s enduring literary legacy and the spirit of America’s 250th birthday. The event offers a unique opportunity to experience contemporary poetry in the very place that inspired one of Indiana’s most beloved poets.

Following the awards ceremony, the celebration will continue with “WORD OUT! An Afternoon of Poetry with Coffee” at Hancock County Arts, 3 blocks away, at 20A N. State Street, Greenfield, IN. For more information, click here.

Both events are free and open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend and celebrate the power of words, creativity, and community during National Poetry Month.
