September Exhibit At The Gallery

Pastels... Call out for Pastel pieces. Bring them to exhibit during September.

This is an opportunity for us to bring awareness to the specialized art medium using pastels. This art is executed with fragile, finger size sticks called pastels. The powdered pigments create art that is truly glowing. If you’ve never tried using pastels, this is your time to try. This exhibit is free to enter. Intake August 31 and Sept 1, 3pm - 6pm. Prize for 1st place Professional and 1st place Amateur.

Second Friday Reception September 8 – 6:30 to 8:30 pm

Creative Nonfiction Group

4-week sessions discussing different aspects of creative nonfiction, pulling from memoir samples and books on craft.

It's an asynchronous Facebook group setting, so you'll have lots of flexibility.

Our experienced instructors will guide you through the process of creating unique and beautiful jewelry pieces. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced beader, this workshop is perfect for you. April 2024 Total Eclipse of the Sun – Open to all Mediums Emphasizing FIBER

This will focus on art works of the eclipse and the sun. This may include the effect of sunlight and shadows in works of art. 2D and 3D art can include paintings, and alternative media especially fiber artworks, sculpture and photography. We are creating an event and inviting Hancock County to Lunch with us in the Living Alley from noon till 3. Food trucks and games, music, art activities and vendors. Planning a talk about what you can expect during the eclipse on March 30. More info coming!
 

Hi-lighted Member for September

Hancock County Arts would like to introduce or re-introduce you to Norm Dingle.

Norm is an upcoming artist in Hancock County. His professional career was as an engineer in the process control and auto ID industry. He is a graduate from Purdue University in engineering. Norm is also retired from the U.S. Navy. He served 7 years on submarines and 34 years in the Navy Reserve. He is an active amateur radio operator with the Hancock County Amateur Radio Club and the Hancock County Emergency Management Agency. He is also an avid amateur astronomer and is active in the Indiana Astronomical Society. He enjoys working with astrophotography and low-resolution spectroscopy. 6 years ago, Norm was selected as a NASA Solar System Ambassador. In this role he gives presentations about NASA and space to the public.

Norm is also responsible for all audio and video operations in his church. Norm and his wife operated a wedding and portrait photography business in New Palestine for 20 years. He remains active in photography and videography as a serious hobby.

He started doing art in Florida, while spending the winter down there 3 years ago, by taking a continuing education class on pencil graphite art.

Upon his return from Florida, he started taking lessons with Sandy Hall. He has now worked with various mediums including watercolor, woodcut, neurographic art, glass fusion, and intaglio printing using a pasta press. His favorite medium is still graphite but is looking forward to trying other mediums.

He is active in the Tuesday morning art group here at the 20 North gallery. He recently joined the HCA board as a member.

Still Life or Plein-air - Thursdays, 1pm-4pm

Art Call Outs

Eskenazi Health Center Call for Artwork Acquisitions

Eskenazi Health is acquiring a diverse collection of artworks for permanent acquisition and display at Eskenazi Health Center East 38th Street opening in 2024. This call is open to all skill sets and levels of artist production. Acquisitions may range from then purchase of singular or multiple artworks, a numbered edition, or body of works. Eskenazi Health values art as an instrument for healing and believes that artwork can reduce patient stress and improve health outcomes. The themes and subject matter of art should support Eskenazi Health's mission to advocate, care, teach, and serve, support a healing environment, and consider the diversity of the community served. This call closes on September 17, 2023.

Art Call Out At The Gallery

October - Member's Only Exhibit, All Mediums
Member’s talent will be on display through the Riley Days and through the month. Every medium is welcome. Also, the exhibit will include the Riley Festival Exhibitors. 30,000 people will view and have the first chance to purchase wonderful local art.

November - Gone But Not Forgotten - Scenes and Structure from the Past

This is an open show for all mediums of 2D and 3D art. This stirring exhibit will share the favorite artists’ memories of persons, places and things of the past.
Your Family Heirlooms - Patrons may commission paintings created with their heirlooms. Exhibit will continue through December 16th. You are invited to chat with the artists to help create an heirloom for your families.

December - Christmas Tree Festival at 20 North State Gallery

All Businesses and Not-For-Profit Organizations in Hancock County are invited to decorate a tree representing their business or organization. Each tree can be a collection spot for donations for its favorite cause. Guests will be welcomed throughout the month to visit the display, vote for their favorite tree, and bring an unwrapped gift for any one of the trees. Online favorite voting will also be available on Facebook. Winners will be announced Dec. 16th. Trees may be donated to needy families to brighten their season.
